Cover Reveals! Komal Kant’s Wrong Side of Town & Echoes of Melody

Unrelated to the Shudder tour, I’d like to share two awesome new covers by my friend and AMAZING fellow indie author, Komal Kant!  Here’s a little more about Komal and work in case you’re not familiar:

Komal Kant

Komal Kant is the author of IMPOSSIBLE, FALLING FOR HADIE, and the upcoming WRONG SIDE OF TOWN. She currently lives in Sydney, but wishes she lived all over the world.

Her weird-filled days are filled with imaginary characters who often speak to her in hushed tones before stealing her lunch money; Siberian Huskies who talk back a lot; and the growing need to clone herself so she can write faster.

You can often find her swooning over fictional male characters who smirk a lot, superhero-related movies, and Ryan Gosling. So if there was ever a superhero movie with Ryan Gosling in it smirking a lot, she would pass out from an overload of swooniness.

And now, check out these gorgeous covers for her upcoming releases!  Both are YA/NA Contemporary, with Wrong Side of Town being the third book in the With Me series (but can be read as a standalone), and Echoes of Melody is a coming-of-age story told from the eyes of a teenage guy.

Wrong Side of Town by Komal KantWrong Side of Town

“You never know someone is missing in your life until the moment they enter it.”

Estella Markson is a good girl. She studies hard, stays out of trouble, and is struggling to hold together her family that is falling apart because of her alcoholic father.

Vincent Madden is the guy your mother warned you to stay away from. He doesn’t follow the rules, is in a notorious motorcycle gang, and doesn’t care if he breaks the law or someone’s bones.

After a chance encounter, Vincent starts to take an interest in the innocent girl who is so different to him. Despite Vincent’s infamous reputation, Estella is also intrigued by him. There is something about this bad boy that gives her an escape from her world of problems, and she can’t stay away.

Even as they struggle with the problems in their lives, Vincent and Estella soon find that trying to forget is easier with someone by your side.

Echoes of Melody by Komal KantEchoes of Melody

This is not one of those conventional love stories.

It’s not one where the guy has a six-pack and all the girls drool over him and want to have his babies.

I know this because I’m the guy and I’m pretty unimpressive as far as guys go. I don’t even have a one-pack.

This isn’t a story where the girl is a perfect female specimen who blushes and bites her lip and wants to make your life better.

Nope. The girl is pretty freaking messed up. Also, she has an unhealthy attachment to a pink umbrella.

But look who’s talking. I’m just as messed up as she is.

Together, we make one screwed up couple. We’re trying to help each other through our various issues, but most of the time we just end up arguing or making out.

I told you we were screwed up.

To be honest, I’ll be lucky if I don’t kill her by the time I’m done telling you this story.

Don’t these books looks awesome??  Congrats to Komal on her upcoming releases!  Can’t wait to read them!

Today on the Tour

Whew, so now that we’ve got the background out of the way, let’s get this thing rolling!  To start you off today, we’ve got one great stop at Joana In The Sky With Books!  (No CBL bloggers today, so you’ll have to wait until next week to enter that big giveaway, sorry!)

Joana In The Sky With Books is featuring an excellent 4 star review and an awesome author interview!  Here’s a preview:

From the review:

“This one definitely moves at a faster pace than the last one and it’s more action packed as well. … this series is great both for lovers of dystopian fiction and for people who, like me, had never ventured into the genre.  All the other elements from other genres (paranormal, sci-fi, even a little horror) make this book absolutely unique!”

From the interview:

Is there any character in the trilogy based on someone you know in person?

Actually, almost EVERY character in the trilogy is based on someone I know, or more likely a combination of people I know.  Alessa is a lot like me, for better or for worse, and Janie is a combo of a bunch of my good friends (Joan’s good sense and keen observation, Vanessa’s bubbliness and charisma, Diane’s courage and undying loyalty, amongst others).  Certain aspects of Isaac were drawn from my husband (his analytical-mindedness and just overwhelming kindness and thoughtfulness), and the Engineers (the bad guys) are based on a variety of people I’ve met and disliked over the years…

Plenty more at Joana In The Sky With Books!  Thanks so much to Joana for kicking off the tour this weekend!  Check back Monday for more great stops and plenty more tour excitement.  :-)

One More Announcement…

Now that Shudder is released and includes a sneak preview chapter from the final book in the series, it looks like the cat’s out of the bag… In case you were curious, the title of the third and final installment in the Stitch Trilogy is Stuck.

But no cover yet!  If you want to check that out, you’ll have to grab a copy of Shudder and see for yourself in the back of the book.  :-)  (But DON’T peek at it until you’ve read through Shudder, otherwise you’ll spoil the ending of Book 2!  You’ve been warned!!  Seriously.  Don’t do it.  Trust me.)  Happy Reading!!!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Shudder is coming!!! Cover Reveals start TODAY

So… Easter weekend got a *bit* in the way of my progress with the Shudder drafts the past few days, but never fear – the release train is still on schedule!  In fact, starting today and continuing for the next few weeks, you may notice some Shudder buzz popping up at your favorite book blogs…

And that’s because it’s time to reveal the Shudder cover!  So without further ado, here ya go:

Shudder by Samantha DuranteTa-da!  What do you think??

Here’s a little more about what you can expect to see in Shudder:

It’s only been three days, and already everything is different.

Paragon is behind her, but somehow Alessa’s life may actually have gotten worse. In a wrenching twist of fate, she traded the safety and companionship of her sister for that of her true love, losing a vital partner she’d counted on for the ordeal ahead. Her comfortable university life is but a distant memory, as she faces the prospect of surviving a bleak winter on the meager remains of a ravaged world. And if she’d thought she’d tasted fear upon seeing a ghost, she was wrong; now she’s discovering new depths of terror while being hunted by a deadly virus and a terrifying pack of superhuman creatures thirsting for blood.

And then there are the visions.

The memory-altering “stitch” unlocked something in Alessa’s mind, and now she can’t shake the constant flood of alien feelings ransacking her emotions. Haunting memories of an old flame are driving a deep and painful rift into her once-secure relationship. And a series of staggering revelations about the treacherous Engineers – and the bone-chilling deceit shrouding her world’s sorry history – will soon leave Alessa reeling…

The second installment in the electrifying Stitch Trilogy, Shudder follows Samantha Durante’s shocking and innovative debut with a heart-pounding, paranormal-dusted dystopian adventure sure to keep the pages turning.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

 photo author_photo_JA_Huss_zpsc00208fe.jpg

J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really-Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.

GOODREADS

How epic is that trailer, btw??  Looking forward to the release in April!  Best of luck to J.A. Huss (and Junco!) with the upcoming tour and book launch!

The Big Reveal: Stitch Cover Art!

I’m SO excited to share the final cover art for Stitch!  Drumroll please… Ta-da!

Book Cover Art for Stitch

A big shout out to Damon over at http://damonza.com/ for bearing with me through many, many rounds of revisions until we got it just right.  He’s fantastic – I really can’t say enough!

Doing the cover was probably one of the most fun aspects of this whole process.  Even when you have a finished manuscript with 300+ pages and 75,000 words, it doesn’t really feel like a book.  But seeing your name on the cover makes it real.  I wrote a book!  Look, there it is!  Ahh!!!

In all seriousness, though, the cover is probably your most important selling tool, and one of the things that’s great about being a self-published author is that you have full control over how your cover looks.  As a person lacking in graphic design skills, this can also be a bad thing (there are plenty of hideous homemade covers out there…), which is why I decided to invest some money in getting a professionally designed cover by someone who actually knows what they’re doing.  It was really important to me that my book look like a “real book” and I think we’ve managed to achieve that.  Yay!

One of the challenges of designing the cover is that it needs to give the reader an idea of what to expect without giving too much away, and of course also has to be compelling.  And then of course there’s the “too much face” issue – since I wanted to show the characters’ eyes, I obviously needed to show some face, but my beta readers were very clear in that they didn’t want to have a face planted in their brain before they even started reading.  So it was necessary to find a balance in that respect.

My book also incorporates elements of both paranormal romance and sci-fi, and it was a challenge to find a design that didn’t lean too heavily in any one direction.  I wanted to keep it clean and modern – in keeping with the feel of many YA sci-fi/fantasy books lately – and I wanted to use images that would hint to the reader that this book is more than just a love story between a girl and ghost, that there is something much deeper (and more science fiction-y…) going on below the surface.

Being that this is the first book of a trilogy, I also needed a repeatable design scheme that I could use for the remaining books so that they would form a cohesive set.  I was happy with this design because it provided a handful of elements which could be tweaked and reused to show the progression through the series.  (Hint: there’s a teaser of book 2 – which includes the book 2 cover art – at the end of Stitch… but you’ll have to get your hands on a copy of the book to see it!  Muahahahaha.)

Anyway, I’ve got to go post this baby on Facebook and other spots on my website, so I’m heading off to do that!  Would love to hear what you think about the design!
