Next Stop – Interview, Excerpt & Giveaway @ Mostly YA Book Obsessed

This interview was originally posted at Mostly YA Book Obsessed as part of the 2012 Stitch Blog Tour:

1. Can you share something about the second book in this series? (Title, quote, teaser?)

Sure! The title of Book 2 in the Stitch trilogy is Shudder, and there are some MAJOR bombs that will be dropped in this next volume, including a lot more background about how Alessa got where she is and a deeper exploration of the philosophical questions behind the desire to build a utopia (and how easily that ambition can be twisted into something sinister). For a teaser, check out the end of Stitch for the cover art and first chapter!

2. What book(s) are you looking forward to the most this year?

I’m DYING for the next installment of Game of Thrones right now, but of course, it’s not coming out this year (or probably anytime soon… sigh). The top of my list to read on my upcoming honeymoon is Insurgent by Veronica Roth – I’ve been saving that one for when I have time to really savor it!

3. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

Time travel. I’m so curious about the future – I’d love to see what’s coming! Will it be all awesome technology and social progress, or will it be environmental chaos and the breakdown of society? I feel like we could really go either way at this point… And it would also be amazing to go back in time for a little dinosaur action (or maybe just to spend time with my grandpa who died before I was born!).

4. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Before I became a professional writer, I was a software engineer. (They’re pretty much as far apart on the job spectrum as you can get! Haha.) For some reason my colleagues at Microsoft were always surprised to learn that I’m a huge sci-fi/fantasy nerd, but now that I’ve written Stitch, I think I’m officially out of the closet! Also, I played rugby in college. So yeah, I’m a little different I guess. J

5. If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?

The Girl Who Got Stuff Done. If you ask any of my friends or family members, they’ll tell you my defining trait is my ability to accomplish a massive amount of stuff in a short amount of time. I was always really busy in high school with sports and activities and class, so I developed really great organizational and time management skills early in life, and I’ve made very good use of them since! I’ve also got a stubborn streak, so that helps – I rarely let anything get in the way of whatever I’ve set my sights on. (But my fiancé will gladly tell you that this is not always a good thing…)

6. What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you'd be embarrassed to admit?

Vampire Diaries! Okay, I know it’s supposed to be a guilty pleasure, but I am SO not embarrassed – I tell pretty much everyone I meet that it’s the best show on television. Everyone should be watching it! Team Damon!

7. What is your favorite non-spoiler quote or scene in from Stitch?

Alessa’s hair-razing escape (yes, the pun is intended!). Anyone who’s made it to the climax will know what I’m talking about… I also pretty much love any interaction between Janie and Alessa, because Janie is based on a combination of all my best friends (who are the sisters I never had!) and their relationship makes me all fuzzy inside.

8. Describe Stitch in 10 words or less…

Genre-bending romance with the boy who’s not really a ghost. (Genre-bending counts as one word!)
